Body found in Phoenix reservoirPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX --Police say the body of an adult male has been found in a reservoir near 27th Avenue and Broadway Road in Phoenix.
The initial call came in well before the sun came up. Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department said a person who had been fishing in the reservoir spotted the body called 911. That person is cooperating with the police and they launch their investigation.
Officers reportedly had a hard time getting to the site. The police helicopter had to guide officers on the ground to the location. The body has since been removed from the water.
The area in which the man's body was located was about 40 feet of water next to a large drop-off.
"It's a runoff reservoir. They are sand and gravel," Trump explained. "They're large pit areas. ... It is a very, very steep slope for quite some distance. With last night's conditions -- the rain and the mud -- it would be very easy for somebody to slip in."
Police have only confirmed that the body is that of an adult male. Investigators have not yet identified the man nor have they determined if his death was accidental or a homicide. The medical examiner will ascertain exactly how the man died, which could take at least two days.
"We don't have anything to indicate foul play at this point," Crump said. "We will examine the body and the scene around it to determine exactly what happened."
