Chance of storms this weekendPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Storms started popping up early in the day over Northern Arizona. Folks in Payson woke up to the rumble of thunder and flashes of lightning. A couple hours later, storms were moving north near Interstate 17 between Sedona and Flagstaff, and by 10 a.m., storms were breaking out in Yavapai County near Prescott and Prescott Valley.
Our atmosphere has abundant moisture right now, and thunderstorm chances are good for Friday and through the weekend for Arizona's high country.
There's about a 20-percent chance of those storms showing up in the Valley. There's also a chance that if storms form to our south, we could get another round of gusty winds and blowing dust.
Storm chances drop off a bit after next Monday.
Valley highs should peak near 108 both today and tomorrow, then lower a few degrees Sunday and Monday as humidity levels are forecast to be a little higher those days.
