Man allegedly molests special needs student on busPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – A man faces molestation charges after he allegedly was seen on surveillance video inappropriately touching a special needs student on a school bus.
The bus driver reported seeing inappropriate behavior by her bus assistant on Wednesday involving the 11-year-old girl.
Detectives with the Family Investigations Bureau Child Crimes Unit initiated an investigation and looked over surveillance footage from inside the bus.
Police reviewed the tape and say they saw Andres Mendoza, 70, fondling the girl’s breasts over and under her clothes. The video also allegedly shows Mendoza reaching down into the girl’s pants.
During an interview with the victim, detectives say the girl indicated this behavior had been going on for some time.
Mendoza admitted to touching the victim but also said he was “just playing around.”
Police say some of the incidents took place while other students were also onboard the school bus.
The suspect did not fully explain his behavior and requested an attorney during questioning.
He faces charges including child molestation and sexual conduct with a minor.
