Alleged molester disrobes and sneaks into teens bedPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – A Valley man is in jail after a teenage girl awoke to find him in her bed, wearing only his underwear.
It happened at about 8 a.m. Sunday at an apartment near 15th and Peoria avenues in Phoenix.
Police said Jacob Samuel Nelson, clad only in his underwear, crawled into the 14-year-old’s bed and told her to be quiet. Instead of complying with his instructions, she screamed, waking up her family.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Nelson fled the scene, but was apprehended by officers a short time later.
Investigators believe Nelson got into the apartment through an unlocked door. They said it’s possible that Nelson actually waited for the girl’s father to leave for work.
Nelson, 34, does have an extensive criminal history, Thompson said, but none of his previous crimes are like this incident.
Nelson has been booked on one count each of attempted child molestation and burglary.
The teen was shaken, but she was not physically injured.
Many people might leave windows and doors open to increase air circulation in their homes during the hot summer months, but police say that’s a bad idea.
“It is important for the community to remember that doors and windows should be kept locked to avoid providing an entry point for criminals,” Thompson said in a news release.
