MESA, Ariz. - A Mesa smoke shop is cleaning up after a car was driven through the front of the store Wednesday.

Around 11 p.m., Mesa police were dispatched to DJs Smoke Shop after a Toyota passenger car was driven straight through the front of the store, coming to rest in the middle of the business.

According to police, Betty Lynum, 85, came to the store to buy cigarettes as she does every other day and when she approached the store in her car, she stepped on the gas instead of the brake. The car launched through the glass and steel front door and destroyed several display cases, some of the lounge furniture inside and hit two people inside the store.

The store manager was one of the people hit and was transported to Banner Baywood Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury to her leg.

Lynum was transported to Banner Baywood Hospital for treatment of minor scrapes and precaution due to her age.

The city of Mesa building inspector was called out and found no structural damage to the building.

No impairment of the driver was detected.
