Shia LaBeouf: 3rd Transformers is best yet

PHOENIX – Shia LaBeouf, aka Sam Witwicky, admits he’s not a fan of the second “Transformers” film. That’s not the case with the third installment of the franchise, “Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon.”

“The thing that was missing from the second movie was the heart,” he said. “It had everything else.”

LaBeouf said a movie can have amazing special effects and incredible action sequences, but none of that matters if there’s no heart. He also said the team needed “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” to get where they are today.

“You sort of had to make the mistakes so you could learn from them and update,” he explained. “I think this [“Dark of the Moon”] is the best movie that we’ve made. I think it’s the best movie Michael Bay has ever made.”

Josh Duhamel, LaBeouf's co-star agrees.

"The story feels very human, and it's a little bit more grownup. It's darker than the other two, and I think people are going to dig that," he said.

One of the big draws of the new “Transformers” is that it’s 3D.

While 3D technology in the movies has experienced some growing pains since its big debut in “Avatar,” many think it’s just a way to jack up ticket prices, LaBeouf said it works in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” He said he often finds 3D intrusive on the viewing experience, but he loves how it’s implemented in “Transformers.”

“This is very tasteful. It’s very subtle,” he said “It’s incredible.”

“Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon” is rated PG-13 and is in theaters now.
