PHOENIX (AP) -- More than enough petition signatures than are needed to force a recall election of Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce have deemed valid by Maricopa County elections officials.
County Elections Director Karen Osborne says no official has been made on whether recall proponents submitted enough valid signatures to force an election.
But Osborne says the latest count has 10,361 signatures verified as valid as of Tuesday morning. That's roughly 2,600 signatures more than are necessary to force a recall election of Pearce.
Osborne says her office has completed its first check of the petitions submitted and now is rechecking rejected ones.
Osborne says that process should be completed this week and preparation of a comprehensive report on the verification results will then be prepared.
