MARICOPA, Ariz. – Eight people were displaced after a fire destroyed a home in Maricopa Sunday evening.

Fire crews were called to the two-story house near Honeycutt and Hartman roads at approximately 6 p.m.

Firefighters found a large volume of fire coming from the garage that was spreading to the second floor, according to Maricopa Fire Department spokesman Brad Pitassi.

Firefighters searched the home for any victims, but no one was home. They then exited the residence due to the dangerous fire conditions.

Pitassi said a first-alarm assignment was dispatched for added personnel due to the hot weather.

Crews put out the fire in about two hours. The home is considered a total loss.

No firefighters or residents were injured

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
