PHOENIX -- U.S. marshals have arrested Donald Lapre, the self-proclaimed "King of Infomercials," after he failed to appear at his arraignment hearing in Phoenix on Wednesday.
Lapre is accused of defrauding more than 220,000 vicitims of nearly $52 million.
A wanted poster issued by the U.S. Marshals Service indicated Lapre is believed to be suffering from anxiety and depression and may be suicidal. He was reportedly taken into custody without incident near Warner Road and Priest Drive in Tempe late Thrusday.
A grand jury indicted Lapre on 41 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud and promotional money laundering.
According to the indictment, Lapre oversaw and promoted a nationwide scheme to sell essentially worthless Internet-based businesses through his company, "The Greatest Vitamin in the World."
