Child drowns in backyard poolPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - A 4-year-old Phoenix boy died after he was found in a backyard swimming pool Thursday afternoon.
The child was found at the bottom of the pool at his family’s home near Thunderbird Road and 14th Avenue.
Police say the boy was watching television with his two other siblings, ages 8 and 6, when his mother noticed he wasn't there. She had been unloading groceries when she looked out the window and saw he had fallen into the pool.
When paramedics arrived at the home the child was in full code. Police say the boy was underwater for up to 15 minutes.
The pool does not have a fence around it. The back door does have a self-closing lock, but the child managed to get through it.
Sandry Enriquez, a neighbor, said she spoke to one of the children who told her the victim had been riding his bicycle near the pool and fell into the deep end.
The boy did not know how to swim.
This is the second child drowning in one week and the 20th incident involving a child in Phoenix so far this year.
