PHOENIX – Phoenix police are searching for a person of interest in a homicide investigation.

Just before 2 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the area of 19th Avenue and Greenway Road regarding what was believed to be a hit-and-run traffic collision. The 53-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigators from the Vehicular Crimes Unit determined the victim's life-threatening injuries were not consistent with being involved in a traffic collision, according to police spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos. Further investigation revealed the man was assaulted.

The victim died over the weekend. His name has not been released.

Video surveillance from a nearby business shows a black male in his 30s with a shaved head running from the scene. He was wearing a gray shirt and khaki cargo shorts at the time.

A second video captured the individual as he was driving away in what is believed to be a 2007 four-door white or silver Hyundai Elantra.

Investigators do not know what, if any, involvement the man may have with this incident, but they would like to speak to him regarding what he was doing or what he may have seen.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of this person of interest or with information regarding this crime is encouraged to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
