Crews battle brush fire in LaveenPosted: Updated:
LAVEEN, Ariz. – Fire crews battled a brush fire in Laveen on Monday.
The fire started in the Gila River Indian Reservation at about 2:30 p.m. and charred about 75 acres. Firefighters used water drops to combat the flames and try to prevent it from spreading.
The fire was burning in the area of 80th Avenue and Dobbins Road. Crews gained control of the flames about 8:30 p.m.
Phoenix Fire Capt. Scott Walker said it is unclear how the brush fire was sparked but "as hot and dry as it is out there, it doesn't take much."
Alia Maisonet, a spokesperson for the tribe, said the blaze was about two miles away from residences.
