St. John Sheriff thinks recent killings are linkedPosted: Updated:
RESERVE, LA – St. John Parish Sheriff Wayne Jones said that two of the three recent killings in the parish are related and he thinks the third one may have links to the other two as well.
An 11-person task force has been set up to investigate the killings.
The most recent killing took place last Friday when 42-year-old Frank Lewis was found shot to death in the 100 block of East 14th Street early in the morning.
The other two killings happened in early May with Jamar Vinnette, 23, being found in a roadside ditch on May 6, and Eliza Fleming, 29, being found shot to death inside of his home on May 8.
Vinnette’s death occurred in the 100 block of East 13th Street and Fleming’s in the 200 block of East 23rd Street.
Jones said evidence shows the two May killings are related and he said he is awaiting autopsy results on Lewis to determine if the third killing is also related.
"The person or persons responsible for this, I feel, knows the operation of these individuals," he said. "Is it drug-related or drug retaliation - quite possibly."
Jones said anyone with information is asked to call 1-985-652-6338 or Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
