Houston couple wins first All-Star FanFest weddingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- They won a free wedding! Everything, free: the dress, the tux, the rings, the cake, the decorations, the food -- even the reception!
Joe Curiale and Dolly West are major baseball fans, so it was only fitting they submit a video explaining why they should be the winners of Major League Baseball’s first-ever All-Star FanFest Wedding!
The MLB and a panel of celebrity judges selected the winning couple who will be married Tuesday, July 12 at 11 a.m. at MLB All-Star FanFest at the Phoenix Convention Center.
In May, baseball fans were asked to submit their stories online explaining why they should be chosen to win the All-Star FanFest Wedding.
Curiale and West are from Houston, and flew into the Valley right after they found out they had won.
"Baseball is more than just a game to us; it's a way for us to be together," West said in the couple's submission video.
Although West roots for the Texas Rangers and Curiale is a fan of the Cleveland Indians, the couple shares a common love for the sport.
"We're hoping baseball can make us a part of its world as much as it has already been a part of ours," West added.
The couple met in Texas while beginning their careers as flight attendants. The couple often will arrange layovers in the same city to visit different ballparks across the nation.
"It's a great way to see all the major ballparks," Curiale said. So far, he and West have visited more than 20 MLB ballparks together.
The panel of celebrity judges who helped chose the couple included the Valley's own former Diamondbacks player Luis Gonzalez, celebrity wedding planner David Tutera, host of “The Marriage Ref" Tom Papa, and Jenni Croft Badolato from ABC's "The Bachelor.
