Congresswoman Giffords released from Houston hospital

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Five months after she was shot in the head, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is out of the hospital.  She will begin outpatient therapy at the TIRR Memorial Hospital in Houston.

Giffords moved there from University Medical Center in Tucson to re-learn how to walk and talk.

Doctors say she's shown continuous improvement since then and is ready for the next step of rehab.

She'll still go to the hospital every day but will be able to stay with family at night.

"The Congresswoman is elated. This is a major step in her recovery and she's feeling very good about it, needless to say. It's going to, I think, be a significant boost to her abilities and her morale to be able to go home every day. I think we're gonna take this one step at a time. We've learned the importance of being patient,"said Giffords staffer C.J. Karamargin.

Giffords will now live with her husband, Navy Captain Mark Kelly, in his home in League City, Texas, 30-miles south of Houston.
