Cousins' fight ends in deadly shootingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – One person is dead after a party ended in a violent family fight early Wednesday morning.
According to police, it all happened at a home in the neighborhood of 83rd Avenue and Buckeye Road.
At some point during the party, a trio of cousins got into a fight. A male hit a female. That male was then shot and killed by a second male, investigators said.
Officers arrived on the scene to find the body of the victim, a Hispanic male believed to about 20 years old, in the street.
Police do not yet know what sparked the initial fight, but they believe alcohol was involved.
Investigators said the incident involved only the three cousins so there are no outstanding suspects.
Officers are questioning the alleged shooter. They are also talking to other members of the family to try and piece together the events leading up to the fight and the shooting. At this point, nobody has been arrested.
It’s not clear if the shooting is going to be labeled self-defense, which, according to U.S. Legal, is defined as “the right to use reasonable force to protect oneself or members of the family from bodily harm ….”
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
