Tolleson police arrest shooting suspect

TOLLESON, Ariz. – Police arrested a 19-year-old Tolleson man after he reportedly shot another man in the back Monday afternoon.

Robert Tafoya was booked into Fourth Avenue Jail for aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons, unlawful discharge of a firearm and disorderly conduct. 

Tolleson police Sgt. R.J. Mendoza said Tafoya shot the 19-year-old victim near Van Buren Street and 94th Avenue at approximately 4 p.m. A perimeter was set up and police officers found Tafoya in an alley.

Mendoza said Tafoya dropped a shotgun and ran from the officers but was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Friends transported the victim to a hospital before police arrived. The Tolleson resident is listed in stable condition with a single gunshot wound to his upper back.

There is no word on what led up to the shooting.
