Abducted boy to be reunited with father to start new lifePosted: Updated:
CHANDLER, Ariz. – Garrett Taylor is preparing to fly to Phoenix this Friday to be reunited with his 10-year-old son, Valor.
They haven't seen each other since Valor was 3 years old when police believe the boy's non-custodial mother took him and fled.
Police found the two in a laundry mat in Chandler last weekend. They were called there after the boy's mother, Jamie Howell, got into some sort of altercation.
Taylor says he's being advised by counselors and Child Protective Services about how to move forward with his son, who may not even recognize him.
They have not yet spoken and Taylor says they're moving slowly to "ease" the boy into his new life. "Our main concern is him. I don't want to call and say, 'Hi, I'm your dad,' and frighten him away," Taylor said.
Valor has never been to school or had a fixed address, according to his father so as to keep him hidden from the network of people who never stopped looking for him.
Next week Valor will start his new life in British Columbia with his father, his wife, and two sisters.
