PHOENIX -- The bodies of a man and woman were discovered at an apartment in the Ahwatukee area Wednesday afternoon.

Both victims suffered fatal gunshot wounds in what Chandler police say appears to be a murder-suicide.

Phoenix police detectives were called to the scene at the Santa Rosa apartment complex near 34th Street and Chandler Boulevard after the bodies were discovered by officers responding to a call from the victims relatives.

The couple, identified as 37-year-old Charlene Gibson and 51-year-old Steven Gibson, had not been heard from in nearly a week.

Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said, "There are a lot of indications that it could be a murder-suicide...but it's a little bit early for us to label it as such."

A weapon was found inside the apartment and there was no sign of forced entry or a struggle. The couple's pet cat was also found dead inside the apartment from a gunshot wound.

Investigators continue to gather clues at the crimes scene in hopes of determining what led up to the deaths.
