Fitness expert Chris Powell goes big time in prime timePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- He made his first appearance on "Good Morning! Arizona" in 2003. Now one of our favorite fitness experts, Chris Powell, is making it big on prime-time TV with "Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition."
“The human body is an amazing machine that we can transform naturally,” Powell says on his website. “I have devoted my being to developing innovative lifestyles and tools to enrich the lives of others – and each life changed has been a remarkable gift.”
"Good Morning! Arizona" watched as Powell helped Valley resident David Smith transform his body -- and his life -- by losing more than 400 pounds, without surgery, over the course of two years. Smith's amazing story, which unfolded on 3TV and here on azfamily.com, got national, even international, attention.
Now Powell is working to help more people take charge of their bodies.
Eight hour-long episodes will follow eight different people on their yearlong journeys with Powell. You will see them lose hundreds of pounds. More than just losing weight, they deal with the issues that led to their obesity in the first place.
"They change who they are as a person," Powell said. "There's no competition, and they're doing it in their homes."
"These lives that we change, it's fulfilling and it's rewarding," Powell said. "It's so awesome to see how these people change their lives. I know that it's going to inspire, and that it's going to motivate millions of people out there.
"It's been incredible."
Powell has a simple bit of advice that he gives everybody. Pick one thing.
"Start small," he said. "As the proverbs goes, 'Every journey begins with a single step.' Pick that one, single step. Don't try to take on too much at once."
Powell something as easy as removing a soda a day from your diet can equal 10 pounds in a year.
If your goal is attainable and realistic, you're much more likely to stick with it and set new goals.
"Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition," premieres tonight on ABC. Check your local listings for times. For more information about Chris Powell, visit www.ChrisPowell.com.
