Institute ranks Sun Tran 4th most connected transit

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A Brookings Institute study ranked Tucson as having the nation's fourth best public transit system.

Analysts found just over 73% of Tucsonans live within three-quarters of a mile of a bus stop and nearly 60% of all commutes take 90 minutes or less.

Critics call the study flawed, pointing to the fact that Sun Tran's ridership makes up just 2.5% of Tucson's population.

The Brookings Institute has explained that the study did not rank transit systems, but ranked metropolitan areas by how well population and jobs were connected by public transit.

In the study Honolulu, HI had the number 1 ranking followed by the Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA market.  Salt Lake City, UT came in at number 3 and Fresno, CA follwed Tucson at number 5.

Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, NY held the last spot in the study.
