UPS testing plastic truck in TucsonPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- UPS is trying to cut down on high fuel cost with a new test vehicle.
Tucson is one of five places where UPS is using a primarily plastic truck. The vehicle is 1,000 pounds lighter and the company hopes it will save them money at the pump.
"Aside from it feeling lighter, it feels a lot smoother just over all," said UPS driver Maritza Ramos.
"It's a high efficiency diesel engine we're looking for 40% improvement in fuel economy, this is the best of all worlds," said UPS Automotive Supervisor Tony Coleman.
The truck has been driving around town since April and will be here until after the Christmas rush.
