Man nearly kidnaps Surprise girl, suspect on the loose

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Police in Surprise are looking for a man who allegedly tried to kidnap a teenage girl.

It happened at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday near a park on 163rd Avenue and Sandra Lane.

Investigators said the man asked the 16-year-old if she wanted a ride home. When she said that she did not, he walked up behind her and grabbed her arm.

Police said the girl fought back. She punched the man in the face, wrenched her arm free and ran home. She was not injured.

Officers have only a vague description of the suspect.

He reportedly is an older Hispanic man who might have been wearing sweatpants. He was driving a beige four-door car.
