Man killed by crane at Ariz. quarry

CONGRESS, Ariz. - A crane accident at a quarry in Congress, Ariz. leads to a worker's death.

On May 24, a 28-year-old quarry worker was killed when a crane he was driving rolled over.

The incident occurred on State Land adjacent to Jake's Granite Quarry located at milepost 5 off Date Creek Road just after 1 p.m.

The worker was driving a 100 ton crane down a hillside when he lost control of the vehicle and it flipped over.

It took six and a half hours to right the crane and get to the body for removal.

The accident is being investigated by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, Federal Occupational Safety and Health Organization and the Arizona State Mine Inspectors Office.

The victim was a sub-contractor for Frontier Stone and Materials who was employed to repair equipment, including cranes, on the property.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
