MARICOPA, Ariz. – SR 347 was reopened late Saturday night after a wreck forced officials to close it for several hours.

Five people were taken to the hospital following the crash involving a tanker trailer and two other vehicles Saturday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the scene on northbound State Route 347 at Rancho El Dorado just before 2 p.m. near Casa Grande.

Police say the wreck involved a semi-tanker truck that was hauling fuel. It ruptured following the crash causing a large diesel fuel spill.

Witnesses tell the Department of Public Safety that one of the drivers tried to make a U-turn while on the freeway, causing the collision.

The injuries sustained by the five people taken to the hospital are said to be non-life-threatening.
