TUCSON, Ariz. -- A major drug cartel was taken down by federal, state and local law enforcement officials.

The Jesus Valencia Rodriguez trafficking ring. Reportedly has ties to a Mexican drug cartel that smuggled marijuana and humans through a Southern Arizona Indian reservation.

Twenty-seven of 46 people have been nabbed.

Officials said the smugglers used sophisticated hilltop surveillance to avoid U.S. Border agents.

"There usually in the high areas of the mountains they have a significant view of the valley and who's coming across, its like air traffic control system passed off from spotter to spotter to spotter until it gets to its end point," said Doug Coleman from the DEA.

Some of the charges they will face are money laundering and illegally conducting an enterprise.

The DEA says they will continue to search for those that haven't been arrested.
