Man carrying infant allegedly assaults officer in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. – A man was arrested after allegedly physically assaulting an officer while holding an infant in his arms in Mesa.
Police were called to a home in the 800 block of east June Circle just after 2 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports that an individual had pointed a shotgun at a woman.
Two subjects were walking towards the home as officers were setting up a perimeter and when officers detained them, several more people came out of the house, including the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Rodrigo Ruiz.
Police say Ruiz got into a verbal confrontation with officers as he was carrying an infant.
When officers tried to lead Ruiz from the home he allegedly kicked a Mesa sergeant and tried to punch the officer in the back.
Officers safely took the baby from Ruiz’s arms and he was taken to the ground and arrested. He faces aggravated assault on police charges.
The female caller faces charges for allegedly providing false information.
