MESA, Ariz. -- A Mesa city councilman was involved in a collision that killed a bicyclist Wednesday night.

Mesa police said Christopher Glover, 24, was driving westbound on McKellips Road between Mesa Drive and Horne at approximately 7 p.m. when a bicyclist reportedly crossed the street mid-block and rode in front of his BMW.

The bicyclist died at the scene. He has been identified as James Dailey, 55, of Mesa.

Glover was not injured.

Impairment and speed were not factors in the collision, according to Mesa police Sgt. Ed Wessing.

Glover released the following statement Thursday morning: "First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the cyclist who lost his life in this unfortunate and tragic accident. As you can imagine, this is a traumatic event for all involved. Please know that I am cooperating fully with the police department in their investigation."

Glover was elected to the Mesa City Council last year and represents District 4.
