Contagious horse virus detected in ArizonaPosted: Updated:
A contagious and potentially fatal virus linked to a cutting horse show in Utah has been detected in Arizona.
The state Department of Agriculture confirms tests found the equine herpes virus in a horse that attended the contest.
Officials declined to say where the horse is located or identify the owners, only that a veterinarian is caring for the animal and its movements are being restricted the to prevent the spread of disease.
At least 18 horses in Idaho, Utah, Colorado, California, Washington and Canada have been infected with the virus. At least three have died.
