GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A 5-year-old boy crashed his mom's SUV into the family's Glendale apartment Monday morning.

A woman had just put her two children, ages 5 and 3, in the SUV with their little Chihuahua and was getting into the vehicle at a four-plex near Bethany Home Road and 48th Avenue.

The dog jumped from the Ford Expedition and the woman got out of the running vehicle to chase after it, according to Rick Stevens, the apartment maintenance manager.

The 5-year-old got behind the wheel, put it in gear and stepped on the gas, crashing into the apartment.

The crash caused a lot of damage but no one was injured.
