Tucson protest against private prisons and SB 1070Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Immigration activists gathered downtown Thursday to protest SB 1070 supporters who they say only support the law to make money off it.
Derechos Humanos held a rally outside the Wells Fargo building. They say people from the private prison industry support SB 1070 because it'll lead to more people getting locked up, meaning more money for them.
Activists are calling for companies like Wells Fargo, that help fund the prison industry, to stop.
"If they don't see us as people and treating us as equality, as part of humanity, as part of their social life, then why should they be using our money for that,"
The protesters also delivered a letter to the Wells Fargo management, asking them not to invest in the prison industry.
