PHOENIX -- Phoenix police are looking for the suspects involved in nearly 20 robberies around Maryvale High School.

Since January, 18 students have reported being targets of strong armed robberies, according to Sgt. Steve Martos. The victims have been predominantly female.

Martos said two to six Hispanic suspects approach the victims as they are walking home from Maryvale High School, which is near Osborn Road and 59th Avenue. The suspects position themselves in the path of the victims, engage them in conversation and then yank off their gold necklaces.

Martos said the suspects, who are between the ages of 16 and 20, have used different vehicles to make their getaway.

Detectives have been working to identify the suspects and released a composite sketch of one of them Thursday morning.

Police are warning the students to walk in groups.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6141. Callers can also remain anonymous by calling Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
