Council approves pursuit of MLS Spring trainingPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Major League Soccer spring training could be calling Tucson home next spring.
Council members approved a unanimous motion in support of MLS spring training.
FC Tucson showed council how they would go about securing teams in the Old Pueblo.
Soccer fans say the Desert Cup's success shows soccer could mean big money for Tucson.
"I think the council received the presentation really well. There's a real enthusiasm for bringing Major League Soccer Spring Training to town and this will be a real benefit to us as we go out to these teams to reach out to them and ask them to come back to our community," said FC Tucson Manager Greg Foster.
FC Tucson will serve as a liaison between the City of Tucson and MLS teams, but both the city and the soccer club will work together as partners in the process.
