Peach Festival kicks off at Schnepf Farms this weekendPosted: Updated:
QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. -- It was touch and go for a bit when an unusually severe cold snap froze parts of the Valley earlier this year, but with a lot of hard work, not to mention a hired helicopter, the Schnepf family saved most of their peach crop and are able to host the annual Queen Creek Peach Festival.
In addition to fabulously fresh peaches -- which you can buy by the box or pick yourself -- there are also peach pancakes, gooey peach cinnamon rolls, peach pie, peach cobbler and every kind of peach goody you can imagine.
The peaches are organic -- Schnepf Farms has not used any kind of pesticides or fertilizers in its orchards for more than 45 years -- so you can eat them right off the trees.
There are also peach-themed games, including a peach-eating-and-pit-spitting contest and a pie-eating contest.
April Warnecke got a sneak preview -- and taste -- of this year's event, which will run for two weekends -- May 14-15 and May 21-22, 7: 30 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. Admission is free.
