Oil spill creates traffic snarl in northwest TucsonPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- A sizable oil spill Thursday on the Northwest side made for some treacherous driving conditions.
Northwest Fire crews called a stretch of River Road near La Cañada found a slick more than 500 feet long.
They suspect it was the result of a vehicle that drove away from an earlier crash.
They sprayed foam on the roadway to sop up the oil, but not before it caused some problems.
"As a result of that oil spill the roadway had become very slick causing several other incidents of cars making contact and near misses of drivers trying to drive through the oil and created a hazard," said Northwest Fire District.
Pima County Sheriff's deputies got called in to investigate in an effort to find out who spilled the oil.
