Warmer weather creates perfect conditions for freeway projectPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- You may not care for the higher temperatures we are experiencing here in the Valley of the Sun, but the Arizona Department of Transportation is welcoming them. This week’s warmer weather creates the right conditions for adding rubberized asphalt along the now-wider sections of Interstate 10 west of Dysart Road in the West Valley.
Pavement temperatures of at least 75 degrees are needed for the rubberized asphalt to adhere to the existing concrete freeway surface. So starting Thursday night, crews will be busy completing work to add a final layer of rubberized asphalt along westbound I-10 in the Avondale, Goodyear and Buckeye areas. Eastbound paving in the area started earlier this week. The rubberized asphalt paving is the last major phase of work on projects to add new lanes along I-10 between Dysart Road and Verrado Way.
Drivers should expect lane restrictions along I-10 between Avondale Boulevard and Verrado Way over the next few weeks. ADOT recommends drivers allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.
Here’s the paving schedule for the next week:
*Westbound I-10 narrowed to two lanes between Avondale Boulevard and Estrella Parkway from 9 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Saturday for rubberized asphalt paving.
*Westbound I-10 narrowed to one lane between Avondale Boulevard and Estrella Parkway from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes to avoid freeway backups.
