PHOENIX (AP) -- Authorities say a homeless man is recovering in a Phoenix hospital after being stung thousands of times by a swarm of around 100,000 bees.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say the man was walking down a city street Tuesday morning when the swarm of Africanized bees descended on him.

Firefighters rescued him by covering the bees in foam and killing them.

Fire department Capt. Scott Walker says the victim was in an anaphylactic shock after getting stung thousands of times and was rushed to a hospital.

The name and age of the homeless man wasn't immediately available Wednesday. Walker says he was told by hospital officials that the victim is expected to recover.
