Roy Farrell, MD, Carondelet Holy Cross Hospital, says when it comes to chest pain, time is of the essence when it comes to seeking treatment. He says the Santa Cruz Myocardial Infarction Protocol links the hospital with area EMTs, who have been trained on how to stabilize a patient while en route to the hospital. Once there, he says, a helicopter can quickly get the patient to Tucson’s St. Mary’s hospital. He says the time from first contact to St. Mary’s is less than 75-minutes.
