ASU women's basketball coach taking leave of absence

TEMPE, Ariz. - The head basketball coach of the Arizona State basketball team is taking an extended leave of absence from the program.

Coach Charli Turner Thorne has asked for and been granted a nine-month unpaid leave of absence that will begin July 1.

Citing family reasons and personal development the leave was announced at a Monday afternoon press conference at Wells Fargo Arena.

Assistant Joe Anders will take over for the immensely successful Turner Thorne who will return to the Sun Devils in March of 2012.

Anders just completed his 10th season on Turner Thorne's staff at ASU.
