TEMPE, Ariz. – A registered sex offender was arrested for allegedly exposing himself and engaging in a sexual act in front of a woman in Tempe.

Police responded to the 1900 block of east University Drive Saturday at about 12:30 p.m. after a 24-year-old woman reported a man exposing himself and masturbating.

Officers had set up surveillance on some Arizona State University complexes where similar crimes had been recently reported involving sexual indecency and indecent exposure.

The suspect, identified as Tucson resident Matthew Flentge, fled the scene before officers arrived.

Flentge, 43, was observed walking through a complex by a surveillance officer at the Quadrangles Apartments in the 1200 block of east University Drive.

The suspect reportedly did not have identification on his person but officers learned he is a registered sex offender through a records check.

Flentge is being held at the Tempe City Jail where he faces indecent exposure, public sexual indecency and one count of failing to carry identification as a sex offender.
