2 Arizona-based airmen die in AfghanistanPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- The Department of Defense says two Arizona-based airmen are among the nine Americans killed Wednesday during a shooting at an airport in Afghanistan.
The Pentagon says 35-year-old Capt. Nathan Nylander was assigned to Tucson's Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and was working for the 25th Operational Weather Squadron.
The Arizona Daily Star reports Nylander's wife and three children live in Tucson.
The second airman is identified as 37-year-old Lt. Col. Frank Bryant. He was assigned to the 56th Operations Group at Luke Force Base in Glendale.
The Luke public affairs office says Bryant was assisting in development of the Afghanistan National Security Forces.
The military says eight Air Force personnel and one civilian contractor died at the international airport in Kabul when a shooter opened fire.
