Red Flag warnings for most of Arizona on FridayPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - A very windy day is expected across Arizona on Friday with winds gusting in excess of 50 miles per hour in northern and eastern portions of the state and up to 40 mph in the deserts.
Some blowing dust will accompany the wind.
From the Weather Service:
The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Red Flag Warning which is in effect for Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and again Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. due to strong gusty winds with very low relative humidity and high fire danger.
*Affected area is in southwest and south-central Arizona, Yuma County and La Paz County including the lower Colorado River Valley. Also, Maricopa County, northwest and north-central Pinal County and southern Gila County. In southeast California, eastern Riverside County and Imperial County including the lower Colorado River Valley.
* Wind from the southwest and west sustained at 20 to 25 mph with gusts to near 40 mph.
* Humidity: 5 to 15 percent.
*Impacts the combination of strong gusty winds, very low relative humidity and high fire danger will create hazardous fire weather conditions.
Cooler air will also be ushered in by Saturday, with highs this weekend in the low 80s.
