MESA, Ariz. -- Two people are facing charges after a late-night drive-by shooting in Mesa.
Police were called to the neighborhood north of University Drive between Gilbert Road and Stapley Drive shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The woman who lives in the home told officers she was awakened by rocks being thrown at her window. The woman, whose name has not been released, said she out to her front porch to check it out. According to the woman, that’s when bullets started flying.
The woman was not injured. She told investigators that the suspects fled the scene in a white four-door sedan.
In the course of the investigation, officers were able to identify an investigative lead – the new girlfriend of the victim’s ex-boyfriend. The new girlfriend drives a car similar to the one the victim described.
Detective Steve Berry said officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle. They also found the handgun used in the shooting.
Investigators were able to develop probable cause to charge the new girlfriend, now identified as Candace Wallace, and the victim’s former boyfriend, Zachary Massie. Berry said both of them subsequently confessed and were booked.
Wallace, 19, is charged with one count of disorderly conduct. Massie, 18, is charged with one count of discharging a firearm at an occupied structure.
