William & Kate: Countdown to the royal weddingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- With just days to go, the frenzy surrounding the royal wedding is nearing an all-time high.
This Friday, Prince William, second in line to the British throne, elder son of heir to the throne, Prince Charles and the late Diana, Princess of Wales, will marry Kate Middleton, daughter of Michael and Carole Middleton.
The couple met while studying at St. Andrews University in Scotland. Prince William proposed in October in Kenya with his mother's diamond and sapphire engagement ring.
The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on April 29 at Westminster Abbey in London. For those of you who want to watch the culmination of this fairy-tale romance, you will have to get up quite early. The ceremony starts at 3 a.m. Arizona time.
Nearly 2,000 people have been invited to the main ceremony. About 600 were invited to a lunchtime reception hosted by The Queen at Buckingham Palace. Charles, Prince of Wales, is hosting a dinner. Just 300 people were invited to that exclusive dinner.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds will travel back to Buckingham Palace in a horse-drawn five-carriage procession along a set route lined by fans and well-wishers. The route takes in some of London's most historic places: Parliament Square, Whitehall, Horse Guards Parade and The Mall.
It's not yet known where the couple will honeymoon, but their first official trip is slated for June. They visit Canada, with stops in Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and the National Capital Region.
