Fat Freezing: The New Liposuction?

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX - Men and women face these frustrating truths every day: a muffin top, pregnancy pooch or love handles, which diet and exercise just don’t seem to help.

“These minute areas of fat don’t warrant a surgical procedure,” said Dr. Susan VanDyke of Van Dyke Laser & Skin in Scottsdale. “The technology is always changing and especially with the new procedures available, getting rid of extra body fat is easier and painless than ever.”

VanDyke’s practice is the first in Scottsdale to offer a new non-invasive procedure called CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting uses a precisely controlled cooling method called Cryolipolysis™ to target, cool, and eliminate fat cells without damage to other tissue. After a one hour CoolSculpting procedure, the patient’s body goes to work. Over the next two to four months, the crystallized fat cells break down and are naturally eliminated from the body.

Van Dyke said the patients she’s seen typically see the most results in about two weeks but can see results as long as three months after the procedure.  She also added, the more times a patient has the procedure done, the more fat will be taken away.

“If you take away 25 percent and then do it again, it will take another 25 percent,” she said.
