CASA GRANDE, Ariz. -- A 46-year-old man was arrested for stealing copper wire from the Casa Grande Golf and RV Resort.

Just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Pinal County sheriff's deputies responded to Selma Highway and Montgomery Road regarding someone possibly stealing copper wire.

Deputies located a set of bolt cutters and saw that multiple electrical boxes were opened and the wire was cut and removed, according to sheriff's office spokesman Tim Gaffney.

A perimeter was set up around the location and deputies found a possible suspect hiding under some thick brush. The suspect, identified as Tracy Allen Johnson, of Casa Grande, initially denied any involvement but later admitted to cutting the wire.

Gaffney said Johnson planned to take the wire to a Phoenix scrap yard to sell it.

He is already on probation from a past theft case.

Johnson was arrested and booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for one count each of theft, burglary, criminal damage and possession of burglary tools.
