Murder suspect arrested trying to flee into MexicoPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested a suspect in the weekend murder of a his girlfriend's friend.
According to Phoenix police, shortly after 2 a.m. on April 16, Armando Medrano, 21, got in a verbal altercation with his girlfriend and some of her friends in his apartment located near 25th Avenue and Interstate 17.
During the course of the argument, he shot and killed Crystal Pineda, 22, a friend of his girlfriend.
He and the others in the apartment fled the scene.
A security guard on the premises discovered the door to the apartment slightly open and found the victim dead inside the apartment.
Witnesses identified Medrano as the suspect and information was sent out to law enforcement agencies.
Later on Saturday, Medrano was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection as he was trying to cross the border into Mexico.
The U.S. Marshals Service has Medrano and he will be returned to Phoenix to face charges in the murder.
