TUCSON, Ariz. -- Officers from the Tucson Police Department spent Thursday night waiting tables at the Claim Jumper restaurant on East Broadway for the annual "Tip-A-Cop" event.

It's a fundraiser for the Arizona Special Olympics.

The Tucson Police department has been supporting the games for about 20 years.

"Tucson is a very tight community, a very close knit community we come together in times of need and obviously this is one of those situations,"

About 15 TPD officers waited tables Thursday night.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Local residents helped show their appreciation for servicemen and women Thursday.

People brought well-wishes, and businesses provided free meals for the officers and employees of the Tucson Police Department.

Five locations throughout town accepted donations to help with operating costs for the Tucson Police Foundation.

"The nice thing is that, at lunch time, we saw guests coming up to the officers and telling them also thank you for all that they do,  they appreciate it," said Suzanne Elefante from Mama Louisa's Restaurant.

Bumper stickers, t-shirts and other memorabilia are available on the Tucson Police Foundation website.
