PHOENIX -- An Iraqi father was sentenced to 34-1/2 years in prison for running over his daughter because she became too Westernized.

In February, a jury found Faleh Hassan Almaleki guilty of second-degree murder for running over Noor Almaleki in an 'honor killing' in October 2009.

He was also found guilty of aggravated assault for seriously injuring Noor's boyfriend's mother, Amal Khalaf, and two counts of leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.

On Friday, a Maricopa County Superior Court judge sentenced Almaleki to 16 years in prison for second-degree murder and 15 years for aggravated assault.

Almaleki was sentenced to 3-1/2 years on each count of leaving the scene of an accident, which are to run concurrently.
