'Drew Careys Improv-A-Ganza' premieres Monday night

LOS ANGELES – Drew Carey is on the Game Show Network, but not with “The Price is Right.” It’s a new show called “Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza,” and it’s taped in front of a live audience.

Carey checked in live from Los Angeles. He told Tara Hitchcock that one of the guests on the show will be the one and only “rock star from Mars” himself, Charlie Sheen.

Carey said the episode was taped in November, before Sheen’s “meltdown tour” and just a couple of weeks after the incident with the trashed New York hotel room.

“I’ve only met him a few times,” Carey said. “Every time I’ve met him, [he was] super nice, super friendly. When I read about him going off and having a bad temper and being mean, I just think, ‘Wow, he’s never, ever done that with me.’ I’ve never seen him drunk or on drugs or anything either. I’ve only seen him sober. I’m probably the only person in the world who’s only seen him drinking water, as sober as a judge.”

Like “Whose Line Is It Anyway,” this new show is all improv. It will even feature some of the same performers.

“There is a comparison. … I’ve been telling people it’s like rock ‘n’ roll,” Carey said. “There’s all different kinds of rock ‘n’ roll. … [This show] is a genre of improv.

“This is a lot more seat-of-the-pants, a lot scarier if you ask me. … Whatever the audience tells us to do, that’s what we have to do.”

Carey said the show is very much a group effort, which keeps it interesting.

“I love watching people being creative right at that moment, so you can see the moment of creativity,” Carey continued. “That’s what you get watching this show. The creative moment is always a funny moment. You never know when it’s coming. … I love doing this form of improv.”

“Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza” premieres today on the Game Show Network at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., ET/PT.
